The difference between the two layer converging switch and the three layer core switch

The difference between the two layer converging switch and the three layer core switch.

The two level switch works on the second level (data link layer) of the OSI model, so it is called the two level switch. The two layer switching technology is more mature. The two layer switch belongs to the data link layer device. It can identify the MAC address information in the data packet, transmit it according to the MAC address, and record the MAC address and the corresponding port in one of its own address tables.

The three layer switch is a switch with part of the router's function. The most important purpose of the three layer switch is to speed up the data exchange within the large LAN. The routing function is also service for this purpose. It can be routed and forwarded many times. The process of packet forwarding is implemented at high speed by hardware, but it is implemented by software such as routing information update, routing table maintenance, routing calculation, routing determination and so on. The three level switching technology is the two level switching technology + the three tier forwarding technology.

CCIT security private switch, it can also be used for PTN remote devices. The product can provide high-speed Ethernet service access and support Ethernet standard protocol. It simplifies the complex protocol cost of PTN, and provides the OAM capability of the business layer, so that the design and implementation of access network will be more and more brief. It has the ability of networking without PTN connection, simplifies the operation interface, makes the network maintenance methods effective and unified, and is more conducive to the realization of efficient network management.

The core switch is not a type of switch. The switch placed in the core layer (network backbone part) is called the core switch. Converging layer switches are the converging locations of multiple access layer switches. Converging layer switches and core switches are different in terms of functions, characteristics, parameters and scenarios.

1. functional differences

The main functions of the core switch are for routing and high-speed forwarding, providing an optimized and reliable backbone transmission structure, so the core layer switch applications have higher reliability, performance and throughput. The converging layer switch is the convergence point of multiple access layer switches, which is used to export the access nodes uniformly, and also do forwarding and routing. It must be able to handle all traffic from the access layer device and provide uplink to the core layer.

2. performance differences

The core switch should first be three layers of switches, high-speed forwarding, large capacity interface bandwidth (such as Gigabit interface), large backplane processing capability. Converging layer switches need to have high forwarding performance, usually three layer switches. At the time of network planning, the core layer equipment requires high redundancy, reliability and transmission speed, so the equipment at the core layer usually takes up most of the investment.

3. use scene difference

There are no fixed requirements for core switches or converging switches, depending on the size of the network environment and the forwarding capability of the equipment, and not each network has to have these three structures.
