The Cisco Catalyst C1000-48P-4G-L is a fixed, managed 48-port Gigabit PoE+ switch for small businesses and branch offices that want Cisco hardware without Catalyst 9000 pricing or licensing. It is a Layer 2 switch with a straightforward feature set: VLANs, QoS, security features and basic management.

All 48 RJ45 ports support PoE+, sharing a 370W budget, which is about 7.7W per port if all 48 draw at once. That is fine for phones and many small devices, but a closet full of access points or cameras needs a PoE plan. There are four 1G SFP uplinks. Cisco rates the 48-port 1G models at 104 Gbps switching bandwidth and 77.38 Mpps forwarding.

On Gigabit models like this one, the uplink ports can connect up to 8 switches into a single stack with single-IP management. The power supply is internal and fixed, and the switch has fans. You can manage it through the web UI, the CLI, SNMP and the RJ45 console. Cisco also supports Bluetooth access through a USB dongle for initial setup.

Before ordering, check your PoE budget and confirm whether you will use the uplink ports for stacking or for the connection to your core. Cisco support contracts and any service entitlements generally do not transfer with resold hardware without Cisco's approval, and the same applies to software licenses on Cisco's enterprise lines, so do not assume a resold unit carries existing coverage.
