Overview

The Dell PowerEdge R660 is a current-generation 1U, two-socket rack server sold configure-to-order. IT teams choose it for dense virtualization, database tiers and scale-out compute where rack space is tight and DDR5 memory and PCIe Gen5 are required.

It accepts one or two 4th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable or Xeon Max processors with up to 56 cores, or 5th Generation Xeon Scalable processors with up to 64 cores. Memory is 32 DDR5 RDIMM slots with an 8TB maximum, at up to 4800 MT/s on 4th Generation CPUs and 5600 MT/s on 5th Generation. This listing is the 8 x 2.5-inch chassis for SAS, SATA or NVMe drives. Dell also offers a 10 x 2.5-inch chassis and 14 or 16-bay E3.S NVMe versions. RAID controllers are the PERC H965i, H755, H755N and H355i, with the HBA355i and HBA465i for pass-through. The BOSS-N1 module carries two M.2 NVMe boot SSDs.

Networking is modular: an optional 2 x 1GbE LOM card and an optional OCP 3.0 card, and both can be fitted together. Up to three PCIe slots are available, Gen5 or Gen4 depending on the riser, with room for three single-width GPUs. Power supplies range from 700W to 1800W. iDRAC9 provides out-of-band management.

Because the R660 is built to order, ICT Devices quotes the configuration you send and shows today's price on request. Useful details to include:

  • 4th or 5th Generation processors, and the exact model
  • DIMM size and count, keeping channels balanced across both CPUs
  • Drive interface for the eight bays and the controller to match
  • LOM card, OCP 3.0 card or both
  • Power supply rating: Dell lists the 700W and 1800W units for 200-240V input

Frequently asked questions

Can I mix 4th and 5th Generation Xeon processors?

No. Both sockets must hold the same processor model. The R660 supports either generation, so decide which one before the rest of the build is specified.

Is a network card included?

Not by default. Dell lists the 2 x 1GbE LOM card and the OCP 3.0 card as options. Tell us which ports you need and we include them in the quote.

What memory speed will I get?

Dell lists up to 4800 MT/s with 4th Generation processors and up to 5600 MT/s with 5th Generation. Actual speed also depends on the CPU model and how many DIMMs sit on each channel.

Why is no price shown?

This server is built to order, so the price depends on the processors, memory, drives and options you choose. Send us your configuration for today's price.
