Overview

The Dell PowerEdge R7615 is a 2U, single-socket server built around the AMD EPYC 9004 series and sold configure-to-order. Buyers pick it when one high-core-count processor is enough and per-socket software licensing or power draw matters. The 12-bay 3.5-inch chassis in this listing suits storage-heavy roles: backup repositories, file and object storage, and data lakes.

The single socket takes a 4th Generation AMD EPYC 9004 processor with up to 128 cores. Twelve DDR5 RDIMM slots, one per memory channel, support up to 3TB at up to 4800 MT/s. The front holds twelve 3.5-inch SAS or SATA drives, and rear cages add two or four 2.5-inch drives or four E3.S NVMe drives. Dell also sells the R7615 with 8 x 3.5-inch, 8, 16 or 24 x 2.5-inch, and E3.S fronts. Internal controllers are the PERC H965i, H755, H755N and H355 and the HBA355i, with the HBA355e for external shelves. The BOSS-N1 module holds two M.2 NVMe boot SSDs.

Networking uses an optional 2 x 1GbE LOM card, an OCP card or both. The chassis has up to eight PCIe slots, a mix of Gen5 and Gen4, and Dell lists up to three 300W double-width or six 75W single-width GPUs. Power supplies range from 700W to 2400W. iDRAC9 provides remote management.

Frequently asked questions

Why choose a single-socket R7615 over a two-socket server?

One EPYC 9004 processor offers up to 128 cores, which covers many workloads that once needed two CPUs. A single socket can lower software costs where licenses are counted per socket, and it draws less power.

How should memory be populated?

The R7615 has twelve DIMM slots, one per memory channel. Filling all twelve with matching RDIMMs gives the processor its full memory bandwidth. The maximum is 3TB per Dell.

Does the 12 x 3.5in chassis support NVMe?

Dell lists the 3.5in front bays as SAS/SATA. NVMe is available through the optional rear E3.S or 2.5in cages, or by choosing a 2.5in or E3.S front chassis instead.

Is there a two-socket version?

The two-socket AMD model in the same family is the R7625, which is a different server. This listing is the single-socket R7615 only.
