Overview

The Dell PowerEdge R760 is Dell's current 2U, two-socket workhorse, sold configure-to-order. The 24-bay 2.5-inch chassis in this listing is aimed at virtualization clusters, hyperconverged nodes, large databases and AI inference servers that need many drives and several expansion cards in one box.

The R760 supports one or two 4th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable or Xeon Max processors with up to 56 cores each, or 5th Generation Xeon Scalable processors with up to 64 cores each. It has 32 DDR5 RDIMM slots and an 8TB memory ceiling, running at up to 4800 MT/s or 5600 MT/s depending on the CPU generation. The front holds 24 x 2.5-inch SAS, SATA or NVMe drives, and rear cages add two or four more. Other R760 chassis offer 8 or 16 x 2.5-inch, 12 x 3.5-inch or 16 E3.S bays. Controllers include the PERC H965i, H755, H755N and H355 and the HBA355i and HBA465i. BOSS-N1 supplies two M.2 NVMe boot drives.

A 2 x 1GbE LOM card and an OCP 3.0 card are both optional and can be installed together. The chassis takes up to eight PCIe slots, Gen5 or Gen4 by riser, and Dell lists support for two double-wide or six single-wide GPUs. Power supplies go from 700W to 3200W, and iDRAC9 manages the server remotely.

ICT Devices quotes the R760 from your configuration and gives today's price on request. Check these before you send it.

  • How many of the 24 bays are NVMe and which controller serves the rest
  • Riser layout for the cards and GPUs you plan to fit
  • Processor wattage, which affects heatsink and fan choices
  • Network: LOM card, OCP 3.0 card and any PCIe adapters
  • Power supply size and input voltage: several ratings need 200-240V or 277V

Frequently asked questions

How many GPUs does the R760 support?

Dell's spec sheet lists support for two double-wide or six single-wide GPUs. The riser set, power cables and power supplies must match the cards, so name the GPU model when you ask for a quote.

Can all 24 bays be NVMe?

Dell lists the 24 x 2.5in front bays for SAS, SATA or NVMe. The backplane decides how many bays are NVMe, so tell us the number of NVMe drives you plan to run.

Does the R760 come with network ports?

The 2 x 1GbE LOM card and the OCP 3.0 card are both listed as optional. We add the network hardware you specify.

Which input voltage do the larger power supplies need?

Dell lists the 700W, 1800W and 2800W Titanium units for 200-240V, and separate 1400W and 3200W Titanium units for 277VAC or 336VDC. The 800W, 1100W, 1400W and 2400W units are listed for 100-240V.
