The Dell PowerEdge R740xd is the storage-heavy version of the R740. The 24-bay 2.5-inch chassis listed here is bought for software-defined storage, vSAN and Storage Spaces Direct nodes, large databases and any workload that needs many SSDs behind two Xeon sockets in 2U.
Like the rest of Dell's 14th generation, it takes one or two Intel Xeon Scalable processors. Dell's spec sheet lists 2nd Generation CPUs with up to 28 cores, and 1st Generation chips are common in refurbished stock. Memory is 24 DDR4 slots, RDIMM or LRDIMM, up to 2933 MT/s and 3TB. The front takes up to 24 x 2.5-inch SAS, SATA or NVMe drives, and Dell also offers a mid bay and rear bays with up to four more 2.5-inch drives each. Internal controllers are the PERC H330, H730P and H740P, the HBA330 for pass-through and S140 software RAID. A BOSS card with two M.2 SSDs keeps the operating system off the data drives.
A network daughter card supplies 4 x 1GbE, 2 x 10GbE plus 2 x 1GbE, 4 x 10GbE or 2 x 25GbE. Riser options give up to eight PCIe Gen3 slots. Dell notes that GPU and FPGA options are offered only on this 24 x 2.5-inch chassis. Power supplies run from 495W to 2400W, and iDRAC9 provides remote management.
ICT Devices builds the quote around the configuration you send. For an R740xd the details below change the price and the parts list most.

Dell's spec sheet lists up to 24 x 2.5in front bays for SAS, SATA or NVMe. How many bays are NVMe-capable in a given unit depends on its backplane and cabling, so give us the number you need.
Yes. Dell lists an optional mid bay with up to 4 x 2.5in drives and rear bays with up to 4 x 2.5in drives. Rear and mid bays take space that risers and tall heatsinks would otherwise use.
It is commonly used that way with the HBA330 pass-through controller. Check your software vendor's compatibility list for the exact controller, drives and firmware before ordering.
Dell's spec sheet says GPU and FPGA options are available only on the 24 x 2.5in R740xd chassis, and some configurations support up to two GPUs alongside NVMe drives.
