Overview

The HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen11 is the current Intel-based 2U, two-socket ProLiant and the default choice for general data center work: virtualization, databases, storage and GPU-assisted applications. It is sold configure-to-order. This listing is based on the 8 SFF Network Choice chassis, HPE part P52534-B21.

The server runs 4th and 5th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. HPE's store page gives the ceiling as 64 cores at 350W per CPU and DDR5 speeds up to 5600 MT/s. There are 32 DDR5 DIMM slots, 16 per processor, with an 8.0TB maximum using 256GB RDIMMs. HPE notes that all 32 slots can be used with the 8 SFF or 16 SFF fronts, while a 24 SFF front limits the server to 16 DIMMs. The P52534-B21 chassis includes one 8 SFF U.3 x1 drive cage. Embedded software RAID covers SATA drives, and the Gen11 MegaRAID controllers add hardware RAID: MR408i-o, MR416i-o and MR216i-o in OCP form, MR416i-p and MR216i-p as PCIe cards, and the SR932i-p.

No network ports are embedded. An OCP 3.0 adapter or a stand-up card is chosen with the build. Three PCIe 5.0 slots are standard on the primary riser, and HPE lists support for up to eight single-wide or three double-wide GPUs. Flex Slot power supplies run from 800W to 1800-2200W, with a 1600W -48VDC option. iLO 6 is the management processor.

ICT Devices quotes the DL380 Gen11 exactly as you configure it and provides today's price on request. Check these points when you prepare the list.

  • Processor generation and wattage, which drive the fan and heatsink choice
  • Front drive layout: 8, 16 or 24 SFF affects how many DIMM slots can be used
  • Controller form factor (OCP or PCIe) and the network card that shares those slots
  • GPU count and the riser and power kits they need
  • The 8 SFF chassis ships with four standard fans; denser builds need more

Frequently asked questions

Is P52534-B21 a complete server?

No. It is the configure-to-order base chassis. HPE lists the processor as not included, and there is no embedded network adapter. We add the processors, memory, drives, controller, network card and power supplies you specify.

How many DIMMs can I install?

32 with the 8 SFF or 16 SFF front. HPE's QuickSpecs note a 16-DIMM maximum when the 24 SFF front is fitted.

Does it support GPUs?

Yes. HPE lists up to eight single-wide or three double-wide GPUs. GPU builds need specific risers, power cables and power supplies, so tell us the card model.

What are the other DL380 Gen11 CTO chassis?

HPE lists P52532-B21 for 8 LFF, P52533-B21 for 12 LFF and P52535-B21 for 24 SFF, all Network Choice, plus an EDSFF model.
